About Hermione Danger
My name is Candise, and I am an academic librarian / social justice crusader. I want to utilize the long arm of the internet to have awesome discussions about the intersections of feminism, librarianship and the media. When I say feminism, I am coming from a white, middle class experience, but my version of feminism is to advocate for social justice for all.
My feminism is queer-friendly, working to confront homophobia and transphobia (even within the queer community); Heterosexism is a graveyard.
My feminism confronts capitalism and the affects of stratification; I am writing this from my trendy MacBook. I understand that even though I have experienced a working-class childhood, I have significant class privilege. I have never lived in serious poverty, but I can attempt to understand my privilege and work towards leveling the playing ground.
My feminism works towards anti-racism, while acknowledging that sometimes I do racist shit (because I’m a white person living in a racist society), and I hope people will call me out if I write fucked up stuff. Here and now, I am making a commitment to not be super defensive if me or my friends are called out, because being an ally is not about my selfish feelings of moral superiority; its about a community working towards helping one another survive and thrive in this racist, capitalist, homophobic patriarchal society we live in.
I am also a contributor on Guybrarian.com and No Bones About It.

p.s.
Hermione Danger. Sounds like Hermione Granger, the feminist ruler/smarty pants from Harry Potter. Only dangerous, because smart girls threaten the patriarchy.
So. Awesome. I love this:

You’re a total ruler.
So are you. If you ever want to blog-team, let me know…
Hi, Candise
Thanks for your offer of help. Would you write to me privately so we can talk about what would work best?
Thanks,
Rory
My partner and I live here in Portland. I have a photo blog (and stumbled upon yours) and she just started a politic rants and thoughts blog. I point her in your blog’s direction… she might like to rant with you.
Maybe we’ll have to go see your debut at the E-Room. It’s right up the street from our house.
Good Luck with the new band!
